Our first weekend here

Yup, this was officially our first weekend together where we did not hop in the car and drive to sleep somewhere else! It was made extra awesome by a visit from JazzmasterSv and C. There was much baking and junk-food, but no takeaways)!

On Sat, Beau and I slept in (bliss) and then I started making food for sharing (pumpkin soup and chocolate berry torte) and Beau started cleaning/tidying for guests. I also managed to get some quality skype time with a certain BFF. Then Beau got to blob while I went to Otaki to meet Sv and C for some shopping.

I was mainly looking for a winter coat but didn't find one. I realised I'm just going to pay full price for a nice one and it'll be worth it because my last winter coat (which I loved) was expensive, but I wore it for 4 years! I'd much rather do that than pay $100 for one that isn't warm enough and which I don't really like the look of either.

After "shopping", Sv, C and I convoyed back home, grabbed the foods and went to Sv and Beau's brother's. It was a sort of birthday celebration for Beau, C and I, since we all have birthdays this month, so we had some party food, cake, cherrios, purplos, mini-hotdogs etc and we played games! Boardgames, that is. TransAmerica and Carcassonne with all the expansions we had. It took hours and we were all pretty confused (and tired), particularly C who had never played Carcassonne, but it was still fun.

Purplos btw look like purple cherrios (aka cocktail sausages). They're ok, they are sweet because they're flavoured with honey. I don't think I'd have them again, if I want cherrios, I want cherrios.

Sunday also started with delicious sleeping. I got up first and decided to work on my Armageddon costume. Two of my wigs are now closer to the colour I want, but I need more alcohol to make more the dye to finish them off.

We headed back over to BiL's place and pikelets of many sizes and left-overs from yesterday. Did I mention there was lemon meringue pie? Mmm. I wanted to go looking for some isopropanol (for the wig dying) and C was keen to go with me, so her and I headed off to shop while everyone else stayed for more gaming (Pandemic and Settlers this time).

We went to a bunch of places and no handy alcohol to be found, (no worries, I can get some from a pharmacy tomorrow) however, I did get two more ramekins and a bunch of silicon bake-ware (an early birthday present from C). I also found some good fabric at Spotlight for my costume.

All in all a fun and productive weekend. Oh, also made cheese and pumpkin wholemeal muffins to have with fruit salad for dinner. It's all good, I'll get to have fruit salad for breakfast tomorrow and spare muffins for my lunch. Yays!

Thursday Foodblog day - lentils and lemons

So, got the camera connected and uploaded some pics.

As previously stated we're not eating "meat" right now and here's a dinner from last week. Red Lentil "Bolognaise"

Also, I made lemon honey aka lemon curd in the slow cooker. I used the same ingredients as in Edmond's but I used the method outlined in the Joan Bishop Slowcooker book.

One jar is for Evie, one is for Bean and the mini-jar and one other is for me. I have it for breakfast stirred into my yogurt. Mmm :) I'll be making some more when I run out again if you want to bags a jar? I'm so happy with myself this time as I did my jar sterilising all properly and the lids popped down and everything! I'll be making some lemon cordial in the next week of so if you want in on that too. Margie and Bean have already bagsied a bottle each, but I probably have another one going.

I love my lemon stuff because I have delightful friends with lemon trees so the largest cost item is free. Yay! I'm looking forward to feijoa season. Want to try making chutney, jam/jelly and bottled feijoas!

Also, I am finally growing my own food. So far I have on likely looking tomato. If you look hard you might spot it.

Did you hear the shout of joy?

That's right as of this morning I have WIRELESS BROADBAND!

Be prepared for blogging occuring more than once a month. There may even be food posts! Gosh.

I went back and looked at my New Year's goals and... I still have to unpack suitcases. But honestly, I don't think they are going to get any more unpacked than they currently are because they have silly things in them like post cards and paperwork and I don't have somewhere else to put them.

I also decided better than year goals, Month Goals.

My Feb Goals were:
1) get some work (or work-like activity, volunteering is ok)
2) move house again
3) find out about getting internet

I have been working at a local highschool. Quite a lot actually, every day last week! Also at least 3 days this week. Sheesh. I've been there so much I've actually been asked to the the teacher in charge of a club!?? The manga club. Sweet. Even after I pointed out I don't have regular hours and plan to move outta town before the end of the year. Still wanted me. Oh well, should be a nice shiny reference for my CV.

Yup we moved again, hence the difficulty with the unpacking thing. Now we are in a house with a toilet/bathroom door. It is a beautiful thing. It even has a lock. Yay.

I found out about internets but didn't manage to get it until *today*

My March Goals are:
1) Learn to cook more vege and seafood recipes
2) Make my costume for Armageddon
3) Take some photos of 1) and 2)
4) Blog them.

I want to do more sewing and cooking. I've been making preserves! I have taken no photos though. Not even of my rosepetal jam. Sadness.

The first goal is prompted by my Beau's desire to give up meat (just catholic meat, so seafood and Capibaras are ok) for Lent. This is 'cause he's "supposed" to for Fridays during Lent anyway, but normally forgets. So it's easier to do it for the whole time. It's pretty much awesome for us. I'm hoping that after Lent we'll only go up to meat for 2 or less meals a week. Until then Lacto-Ovo-Piscerians are we. Except for how I'll totally eat meat if we go out. Dude, I have a genetic problem with iron storage. Plus, that still isn't very often.

With regards to sewing. I have been planning stuff for ages. Have fabric and patterns and intend to make some toddler costumes for the toddlers in my life. Haven't actually tried out the sewing machine yet. D'oh.

I have played lots of Fallout 3 though. I'm seriously looking forward to finishing the beast.

love-love
