So, Beau and I had dinner with my Mum and she informed us that due to the cycle of the moon (currently waning), it is inauspicious for us to move before next Tuesday.
We thought about it for about 20 sec and went, OK.
It goes like this: While we have done a *huge* amount of cleaning and Muggle has now taken her stuff away, there is still more cleaning that can be done. Today I hope to do more dishes and wipe down more kitchen cupboards. There are still curtains launder and re-hang as well as furniture to arrange (and probably wipe down first, since we're on a roll) then we need to actually unpack our stuff and ... some of that stuff is our wedding presents, things we put away over 2 years ago! I don't think we have any pots or pans either, so shopping shall also be required. We do seem to have an excess of Martini glasses though. Also, Beau is back and working full time, including some long days, so he can't be helping with house stuff every day.
We've decided to just keep doing a bit each day and aim to have the house ready for us to move in to (all cleaned and unpacked) by the end of Sunday. Then, we can take Monday off and just chill out. We're staying with Beau's parents and they are looking after us very well. We've not been very good guests though as all we do is eat and drive away to work on the other house. So it'll actually be quite nice to make Monday and hang out day. Then on Tuesday, we just go home. No muss or fuss on Tuesday :)
In other moving news, Stonesoup, this blogging space, is closing down. So I'm thinking of making Tuesday the moving place for my blogging too. Stay tuned for more info!
Point of Fashion: PJs
Current Obsession: *Must* remember to call electrician and builder.
So much stuff!!
Ok, so the plumber came yesterday and fixed the leak, was not a major, just an old (original to the house aka 50+ years old) valve that needed replacing. Unfortunately it was left for so long that the ceiling now needs replacing. Time to call Lee's BiL, me thinks.
Bean and Lentil a;sp visited and helped with cleaning, moving of stuff and general motivation which was lovely. We also went on a trip to Mitre 10 and got a hot water cylinder wrap.. yeah, my hot water cylinder is 50 years old this year and still going strong! Woot :)
Meanwhile, I hired a Rug Doctor for 8 hours and did all the carpets and 2 couches and 2 armchairs. Phew. That was quite a lot of cleaning. Have had 3 dehumidifyers going since then drying it all up.
Today has been a day of waiting for people to arrive. First was the guy with the skip. There is rubbish to be dumped, but also we'll hopefully get some time this weekend to weed-eat and mow the lawns. It could happen. Next to arrive was the telstra clear man, who connected up our phone line and delicious internets. I'm using them now! That took him a while, long enough that our bedroom suite arrived. They even set up the shiny new bed. I'm looking forward to using it, although suspect that won't occur until this weekend.
Other things on the menu for today, my Mum is coming to take me out to lunch and also to go vacuum cleaner shopping with me, I'm thinking of getting the mid-priced Miele vacuum cleaner recommended by Consumer. Also, this evening Beau, Muggle and I will be seeing Jonno and C-L and doing the actually signing to make the house mine and Beau's (as opposed to mine and Muggle's).
I'm hoping that after that I'll be able to convince Muggle and Beau to do some more tidying at the house. I really want the laundry cleared (stuff had to get moved around for the plumber to get into the roof space) so that I can take down and clean the curtains. There are also now many rags and towels that need a good clean. I suspect that will be a good job for tomorrow.
Mustn't forget that tomorrow I am also looking after Lulu (SiL) and going to a play! You can see how I really don't have time for a job right now, right? Either that or you can see how being a housewife is not cruisy.
Tasks for the weekend - clean out kitchen, possibly do some yard work, *actually* move in!
Point of Fashion: it's all about warm and comfy
Current Obsession: End seems vaguely in sight now
We had a good time in Auckland, Canberra and Sydney.
The drive up to Akld was *tiring* and I had to get over my fear of Beau driving and he was actually very good ;) Akld itself was visity, we stayed with a SiL and BiL (I married into a big family so have lots of them) and were well looked after.
Canberra first and good fun being fed delicious dinners and just chillin with Trith and Peta. Seriously Peta is awesome at the feeding. Goan Pork Curry!!! Awesome huge steaks. I am envious of her cast iron enamelled cooking implements. Other things of note in Canberra, Kangaroos at Nighttime, having to push an immobilised car down a hill, a red crescent moon, War memorial, watching the whole of season 1 of Mad Men.
Sydney was more touristy. We stayed with T and P in a lovely serviced apartment near China town. There was ridiculous amounts of eating out. Went walking around Darling Harbour, saw a concert (Battles) at the Sydney Opera house, caught the ferry and went to Toronga Zoo (they have a baby pygmy hippo, which I unfortunately missed, but have seen on the internets. So cute. They also have super playful red pandas and lots of other cool animals) and later *that* day to Manly and had seafood dinners. Did a night-time walk visiting various light displays up for the Vivid Sydney, Festival of Light and Ideas. There was more too, but I forget.
Big drive back down from Auckland and holiday was truly over. Have been busy since then doing stuff to get ourselves and our house ready to move back to the Progressive Suburb. Much of Saturday was spent searching for *the* bedroom suite (we ended up getting a bed (with 2 underbed drawers at the foor), mattress, bedside drawers, Big chest of drawers, Tall Skinny chest of drawers. I hope we have enough drawers ;)
Since then Beau has done some cleaning of the bathroom and much carrying of Muggle's stuff and i have done much researching and phone calling. Have now sorted phone line and internet, electricity, a plumber, 2 arborists to come and give quotes of chopping trees, a skip for throwing away stuff Muggle and we don't want as well as to chuck green waste we will hopefully deal with over weekend. Had an electrician come over yesterday to check out wiring too. Looks like we should probable rewire about half the house. Aiyaiyai.
Also talked to EnergyWise regarding the government funding for getting insulation and heating! 30% up to total of $1800 which is not to be sneezed at. Can't do anything more about that until July though. Will def get onto it ASAP.
Gyah, must get dressed and over to house now (internets not on there until Thurs, bed arriving then too) as an arborist may be over soon.

Current obsession: So much more to do with getting house sorted.
