There are either rats or mice in the walls. I can hear them squeaking and scuttling around. I hope it's mice, and that they stay there.
In fact, the sounds are coming from two places - the wall behind the head of the bed, and the wall behind the heat pump.
I dread to think what kind of creatures are living in the 3 disused (and inadequately bricked-up) chimneys.
Now I'm freaking myself out. Must... stop... visualising... and... sleeptite... dontyouletabedbugbite!
Old buildings... had that in my last flat - scurryings in the walls and bangs in the chimneys. Turned out that it was merely rodents, and that the biggest, scariest noises were from a pair of courting possums that hung out on the roof and investigated the fallen-down chimney space behind the (dysfunctional) gas heater that closed off the gap inside. So fuzzy and fairly little but *bloody* loud. When you get the Sock-darlin back dyou think she'll try and chase the noises along the walls?
Posted by: Rachel at August 28, 2005 11:44 AMFrom what I've heard, if it's a rat it will actually sound like a possum, and if it's a possum it will sound like a goddamned elephant. So if you just hear little scurryings it it probably just a mouse.
