whuffle?

Man, this cold is a be-yatch. I still have the nose that runs. I have the oppressive sleepiness of exhaustion. I have the phlegm that coughs in the night.

Heh.

In any case, my week has been interesting. Some things:

Went to a lunch time concert for New Zealand Music Month (now over) of the ukulele orchestra performing. It was advertised as featuring Bret McKenzie, but he wasn't there, so I felt a little put out. The music was very good however, so I was happy again.

They played some classic NZ tunes, and they played "King of the Swingers" from The Jungle Book and my personal favourite: "You're the one that I want" from Grease as a slow, harmonic back-and-forth between the boys and the girls. They had an immense amount of fun performing and that makes for an entertaining performance to watch. I had to run off back to work before they finished, but such is the price of wanting to eat lunch *and* attend concerts.

Ran into some friends there too, so it was very companionable.

What else? I had Tuesday off work sick and miserable and watched The Exorcism of Emily Rose which was good, but ultimately disappointing. I guess I wanted a level of creepiness that they just didn't manage, partly because it is mostly a courtroom drama but mostly because unlike in The Exorcist there was no slow build of weirdness happening to the possessed girl. Emily Rose was doing freaky backwards bends and unearthly screaming pretty early on, so it wasn't that shocking later in the movie when we saw her scratch the walls or levitate or whatever.
Good film though, very well acted by Laura Linney and whats-his-face the priest. Tom Wilkinson.

Our 48 hour film Destination Earth won runner-up for the audience choice award in our heat, which is very pleasing indeed. Funnily enough I feel a weird level of disconnect from this year's movie. Perhaps because I wasn't involved in the editing on Sunday, perhaps because I have been sick as a dog since the heat screening. Hard to say.

I'm settling in nicely at my new job. I have my own desk and am making friends with people. I need some suggestions of things to take in and decorate my desk with. So far I have a My Little Pony (Sparkler), a Care Bear (Cheer Bear), a Pokemon (Bulbasaur) and a little plastic big head spiderman whose eyes light up. (I got him from Burger King). I also have a Pringles tube. I will make some nice photos be framed and then take them in but any other suggestions welcomed.

I have finally finished reading Sunshine by Robin McKinley. It was very good but I found it hard work to get through with the lack of paragraph breaks and very dense text.

Well, I think that catches me up more or less with the week.

PoF: purple stripes
