Square eyes

On Friday we saw Spiderman 2 and were disappointed. My main problem with it was it was entirely too much like Spiderman with the same things happening again and even scenes being scarily like the first movie. It needed more MJ and less Aunt May. It needed more awesome jokes (and it did have a couple of awesome jokes at the start) and less will Peter Parker really give up Spiderman (because you know he won't right? The movie's called Spiderman!)

Had dinner at Zico's beforehand which I enjoyed immensely. I had lamb cutlets on a parmesan risotto and the lamb was soooo tender. It was divine. Then I had one of their lovely rich hot chocolates and I was very very happy.

On Saturday we went to Chelle and Jase's place and watched Secret Window which I found to be entirely predictable. I mean, when you think of what the twist at end probably is 20 minutes in, you're kinda there already right? The rest of the movie was well made in a nice looking way, but suffered from poor script writing. I am surprised about this. Johnny Depp has good taste in movies!

It did have an awesome 'squirrels are evil' moment, which made me think that Svend must see this movie.

Jin-Roh / the Grudge was pretty darn spooky, but it didn't have a lot of the...eh...atmosphere? that Ring and Dark Water did. Or maybe it didn't give you enough time to care about the characters before it started killing them off. I enjoyed it quite a lot, but it didn't spook me out too much. I am not thinking about certain parts and then I can sleep just fine. Thanks.

Then we watched Puni Puni Poemi because I said I wanted something lighthearted. It was awesome in it's incredible crazy Excel saga/flcl ness. It made more sense than Excel Saga, and it was less serious than flcl. I was laughing so hard, like crazy hard.
I wouldn't recommend it if you don't know your anime though, lots of in-jokes. Also not for those with an aversion to fan service...there's this hilarious sequence mocking fan service, but of course to mock it you have to do it a little. Then there was that evil alien with his scary crotch.

Then yesterday we finally succeeded in seeing Shrek 2. We went to Reading with 45 minutes to spare before screening but it was sold out. Then Chelle had the brilliant idea of trying Hoyts so that's exactly where we saw it. Lee and I had essentially forgotten we could go there and it was a nice change. Ticket prices $4 cheaper than Reading was very nice, and the screening was only about a third full. Nice.

I liked Shrek 2 more than I liked Spiderman 2. I really liked the cuteness that is Puss in Boots, but I wanted the ending to be different.

This morning I watched Freaky Friday (new version) on DVD and it was exactly what I had expected, except the 15 year old's garage band was super-good and sounded totally professional and kind of cool.
