The 200 women a year who seek help at a clinic in the Tokyo suburbs have not had sex with their husbands in up to 20 years, and some never, according to Kim Myong-gan, who runs the clinic.
"The women who come to see me love their husbands and aren't looking for a divorce," he told the Guardian. "The problem is that their husbands lose interest in sex or don't want sex from the start. Many men think of their wives as substitute mothers, not as women with emotional and sexual needs."
[...] The number of married couples is in rapid decline. In 2000 almost 70% of men and 54% of women between 25 and 29 were unmarried. That bodes ill for the birthrate, as conservative Japanese society frowns upon having children outside marriage.
A survey of 600 women found that 26% had not had sex with their husbands in the past year. - Guardian
Wow. Can you imagine never having sex with your partner? What on earth do you do on the wedding night? Play chess?
There's a property inspection today, which means a two-hour abscence of all things dog and dog-related :)
I'm really peeved, one of the other tenants has nicked off with the CD I won off Kiwi. All the mail comes to one mailbox and gets put on a table in the main hall, so it's not the most secure system in the world. Wah! I want my Fastcrew.

Posted by: Vincent at April 21, 2005 05:48 PMHow do you know they stole it?
Posted by: giffy at April 21, 2005 06:08 PMWell, I rang the radio station and checked that they had mailed it, and that they had my correct address.
So, either it got lost in the post, or the postie took it, or it disappeared from the table for paranormal reasons, or someone saw that it was a CD-sized parcel from a radio station that was sitting on the table for a week while I was away and decided to acquire it.
On balance, I picked the last option. It's not empirical evidence, but it's lynch-mob watertight.
yey finally i got to here. couldnt find your mail ad so i just write on here as a comment. you can delete this if you want i can understand.
thanks a lot for your ride the other day! if you need any help just give me a yell!
pity to hear your cd got stolen. yeh its really unsafe there ay. well i thought it could happen so got po box. i would be sad and frustrated if my things get "lost" so paid $125 for that. if you will get anything that might get lost you can use my po box.

hmm? well anyway im a japanese but i will(hopefully!) get married by turning to 29 and will enjoy having sex with my husband!!!
Yay! Glad you found it :) and thanks heaps for the offer for the PO box, that's neat.
Posted by: phreq at April 22, 2005 10:56 AMYep, and you also have to wonder how they picked the 600 women they interviewed. If they picked women who had already contacted a clinic with a problem, then it's quite likely they skewed their data! And 600 from a population of millions isn't particularly statistically significant, either...
