The National Bank of New Zealand needs to get their heads out of their backsides and give some actual customer service to their customers. If you go to the National Bank and ask for your transactions from December 28 through January 28 - less than 2 months ago! - they charge you $4.00 per page for the December transaction record. Why? Oh, we have to go in archives for that.
And yet! When you go to National Bank's online banking, you can access up to the last 100 days of transactions. So why didn't I print it out off the net? Because the transaction statement is for WINZ and it needs to be stamped and verified by the National Bank.
$4 PER PAGE is just completely and utterly unjustified.
The National Bank of New Zealand, which I'm hoping this post will get high search selection for, is a terrible bank and I advise any potential customers to go to Kiwi Bank or BNZ instead.
As anyone who's read my blog for a while will be aware, The National Bank of New Zealand has screwed me over time and time again. This however was the $4 fee that broke the extremely pissed off camel's back. The National Bank of New Zealand can go and do unpleasant things to themselves, because the Earth will be a small cold lump of coal before I willingly bank with The National Bank of New Zealand ever again.
Why don't you have the original copy of the statement that they sent you in the post? The charge for additional statements is done by many banks. If you were on a student account or tertiary account, they would probably not have charged you for them.
Posted by: giffy at February 24, 2005 06:41 AMPaper statements waste masses of un-recycled paper and coloured inks and so I request banks not to send them to me.
I don't think I should be penalised for ticking an option *they gave me* in order to help the environment.
Plus, it wasn't a charge for a statement. That was free. The charge was for going back 5 days into December, which is well within the 100 days of records freely available on the web.

Just because they all do it doesn't make it any better, giffy. I *request* not to have paper statements sent to me; so when I ask them to print off a couple of screen prints for me, I do not think they should charge me money.
I get maybe one physical statement like this a year. So for saving them postage, printing and processing costs all year, I get charged.
I don't care if *all* banks do it, they still shouldn't.
Posted by: phreq at February 24, 2005 07:02 AMI was more just trying to say that Kiwibank or BNZ aren't necessarily better. I do think they should give you copies for free if you normally never get them. That, or WINZ should accept your printed out copy.
Posted by: giffy at February 24, 2005 06:33 PMYeah, I know... I think all banks are secretly one huge bank, The World Bank but blatantly evil. I just shift from one to the other as I get pissed off.
I think that probably discribes many peoples' banking experience. I have frail hope in Kiwi Bank.
WINZ are too careful about being ripped off to accept a printed statement without a bank stamp. That's good and frustratingly pedantic.
Personally I haven't had any problems with National but had ones in past with ANZ which is why I switched to National. Kinda hoping that now that ANZ has it fingers in National they won't ruin it. But based on your experience, sounds like they are. When I requested statements for our mortgage, ANZ told me that they charged cos you supposed to keep your statements for 7 years. If you choosing not to get statements, then I think that they should give them for to you for free
