On Thursday the car just needed a battery boost, on Friday it needed more. On Thursday I walked c to childcare, and me and h stayed home and went to the toy library and did stuff.
On Friday I hosted half the AA either in person or on the phone.
We gave the car a new battery. But it wouldn't start. It wouldn't even spark. So the battery man went away, and the fix-it man came. It wouldn't spark for him, so he left (I couldn't accept his offer of a tow, due to how am I getting home in the rain and hail with a little baby and a four year old in tow?? Eventually R came home and the AA man came back and the car left for the garage. While it gets its sparks back it is getting a new cam belt, as it really REALLY needs one. So we had no car for the weekend.
We took the train to town, and the bus to the brother's cafe, and oiled the wheels of the familial relationships. Then a taxi to the Stonesoup lunch, which was great. Its so good to get faces to the names and lives. Then a bus back to the train station, and train home. It never ceases to amaze me how good public transport is here compared to say Canterbury. Or Nelson, where it is utterly pathetic.
Today, which might be our last carless day, the Army kindly gave R the use of a car for 20 mins to take Cn to childcare. As it is very wet and a bit cold, I am grateful. Small things can change the whole perspective of a day...
