Hi all,
I'm writing cause I've decided to start a bit of a think about what
stonesoup should do next. I've got the point where I need to sort out a
new hosting situation, and I think I'd like to re-engineer how things
work. Also, I've just got a new job which is going to take a pile of
time, so I'm not likely to increase my care for stonesoup (though
intermittant tech work is still available).
So, this seems like a good time to take stock and make some decisions. In
the past stonesoup's been a really good independent blog network. It
provided new bloggers with a ready-made community to start in, and
provided defacto social networking. However, I think there are lots of
other networking sites, and blog hosting sites around and about - so
stonesoup isn't doing that specially well any more. It is still an
independent site - and I'm keen on supporting as much independent blogging
as I can - simply because I don't like to see any one company or group
controlling how people express themselves.
However, I'd like to know what you all think about where stonesoup should
go. Is it past its best buy and should be closed? Is everyone keen to
create a unique community - and if so, what work would we need to do to
make that happen? What sort of community should it be? What sort of
technology might we use? How will we handle paying for space?
If you could all comment on the post on too many cooks, I think that would
be as good a way of getting some discussion going as any. If you want to
email me specifically, please feel free to do that as well.
many thanks, I look forward to hearing from you.
