I have updated my friends links on the side there and added some new people. Ok, they're not new people at all and I've been reading them for a good long time, but I've only just got around to updating my main template.
So sue me.
I wish Hallowe'en was a bigger thing in New Zealand. I really envy Sok and TP being over in the states today...the best I can hope for is that I'll see some kids in costumes roaming the street as I drive home. Tomorrow though, is the Halloween party for the book club for 7 and 8 year olds that I run at the library. I am going to wear my red and black dress maybe with Giffy's hooped petticoat underneath and be a wicked Queen.
I've started saying "Peyow! Peyow!" which I don't like because it's from Bro Town. Oh! And did you know that you can get Bro Town muesli bars now? I can't imagine wanting to eat one.
Got my corsets, and they are so pretty! I haven't had a good look at them as it's not the sort of thing I really want to pull out at work. The red and black one looks Moulin Rouge fabulous and I'm very excited to get home and try them on!
Trademe is so great but so terrible too.
The weekend was a good getting things done weekend. I bought my wedding dress fabric, lining, thread and zip and delivered them to the World's Greatest Mother In Law who had refined the mock-up a bit more and man, it's looking nice. Soon-to-be Father in Law was quite impressed I think!
We also put in a deposit on my wedding ring and it'd being custom-made as you read this (hopefully). It's nice and cheap and should look quite elegant with a carved koru to compliment the squirlies on my engagement ring. I am sans ring right now because they need it to match the wedding one to. I feel quite strange without it although it's easier for washing/moisturising etc.
It feels good to get things checked off the mental list, and my wedding book is getting full. I talked to my sister yesterday about some of the things the celebrant mentioned to us and she showed me a Dr Suess inspired wedding vow: "Will you love her all your life? Will you take her for your wife?"
Flying Burrito Brothers is yummy. I had the lamb tostadas and they were so good. I wanna go back there for more food. Maybe order an entree as a main so I have space for dessert. The churros will be mine!
One bad thing from the weekend: had a funny turn where something caught in my throat and I couldn't breathe properly for about an hour. I felt weak and strange and I was quite worried, but after a sitdown, lunch and some drink I felt more or less normal. It hasn't happened again since, so I think I'm alright but it was worrisome.
Spent yesterday afternoon watching Clone High, Justice League Unlimited and Vernonica Mars. I liked all three, but I'm not sure about the last one for re-watching. It was pretty hardcore, but fun all the same. Will have to watch some more and decide later.
Point Of Fashion: Supergirl undercover for Hallowe'en
Current Obsession: Corsets
Corpse Bride is neat. It's very much Tim Burton and very much his schtick of dead people and dancing skeletons and beautiful boys with black hair....the songs are a bit forgettable although I did love the piano stuff and the harpsichords in the first musical riff.
I was a bit annoyed that maybe he'd done a Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas again and have the girl be well intentioned but ineffectual but then I realised that *all* the characters are ineffectual and then it was fine.
Oh! and the trailers for Narnia and Harry Potter? can I just say: I NEED to see these films NOW! AAArgh! *runs off screaming and tearing hair until the fanigirl squee is exhausted.
Current Music: Greenday
The whole Pania of the Reef being stolen thing made me laugh until I realised they'd actually misquoted the *orginal legend* in the newspaper. Now I'm just annoyed at the whole big deal that's being made out of it.
In other news I have adorable photos of my almost niece and her "boyfriend." Awww! (Both just about 2 years old)
Back at work today with the new/old hayfever meds making me feel a million times better. Tonight: nothing much is happening, but I want to see Corpse Bride.
Tomorrow: stuff! Tupperware, then dinner then other people watch Doom while I hold onto my $14 and mock them. Hopefully Giffy is free and I can hang out with her, otherwise it's over to Mum-in-Laws for more dress stuff...actually Giffy, if you want to accompany me there you are welcome too! (Sure this could all be an email to Giffy, but then what would I blog about???) Then you could see the actual mock-up and not just the picture of it!
ahem. Sunday? Creepy movie? Hanging out?
I really want to see the Corpse Bride. *Le Sigh*
Rachel: I have officially given up on War of the Flowers it's just too long winded and needs editing. This wouldn't be a problem except that I seem incapable of skim reading. I think I've mentioned this before (although I can't find where..) but Lee and I had a talk about it last night. He skims huge chunks of the books he reads but I just never got the hang of it. I like to read every word and then I get annoyed if every word isn't essential to story. In essence: the book was too long and slow so I gave up. Sorry.
This morning I dreamed that it was 48 hour weekend next year and we'd drawn the genre of "pokemon movie" and I had spent the Friday night and Saturday morning renting a hotel room to be base of operations and then setting it up with food and equipment to last everyone the whole weekend. When I caught up with Steve at 3pm Saturdya afternoon the rest of the team had done nothing. We gad no script, nothing on film and no plan. The biggest problem seemed to be finding toys we could use for the pokemon that weren't licensed.
Oy.
Point of Fashion: jeans, tshirt, red corduroy shirt: I am a teenager again!
Current Obsession: what'll I do tomorrow night?
I was insanely grumpy this morning. I've covered it up with cheerfulness at work, which is actually starting to seep through.
It's lovely and sunny but when I went outside my nose went *sneeze! Sneeze! SNEEZE!* and I was sad.
Last night Lee and I had Nando's chicken for dinner and it was awesome and I loved it. Then we went out to the back of beyond (Linden) for to meet the lady what'll marry us. She is just as lovely as I remember and I'm pleased because she gave us a list of things to decide.
Will I change my name: Can I have a popular vote here? I don't much mind my own name, I think Lee's last name is quite nice. The idea of having a different last name makes me feel uneasy, although I'm sure I'd get over it. Lee says he truly doesn't mind either way, so it's down to me. What do you guys think? I used to feel this way but now I'm feeling kinda ambivalent.
Will my parents walk me down the aisle: None of this creepy outdated "Giving away" crap, but it'd kinda be nice to walk with one or both of them. Must talk to parents, see how they feel.
Those are the two that've stuck in my mind. There's a bunch of other things to consider but I have forgotten them so they can't have made such an impression on me. Obviously we're going to have to sort something out about vows...
Point of Fashion: Supergirl tshirt of cheer
Current Obsession: getting stuff sorted out
It's very sunny and I'm feeling the hayfever without any meds.
I'm living on the wild side, not medicating. Yeah.
Has anyone got my copy of Lemony Snicket's a Series of Unfortunate Events book 3: the Wide Window?
I haven't seen it for months and months and I'm now thinking about replacing it so this is a kind of last ditch effort in the hopes someone actually does have it. It's got my name written in the front and everything.
I've just finished reading the latest Lemony Snicket The Penultimate Peril and although it was funny and neat and exciting I can't help but think he's crossed a line into Young Adult content...I won't say why, because it's spoilertastic but yeah. Left me feeling pretty weird.
Yesterday Lee, C, Rachel and I saw Travellers and Magicians which I remembered loving in the film festival last year. It was slower than I remembered it being but then in the film festival a lot of what you see is paced differently to the normal Hollywood fare.
After seeing the preview for Murderball and realising that we could watch it when we went home, we all went home and watched Murderball. (Uhm, sorry, I've just finished the Snicket book it's bound to have affected my writing style..) It's an awesome documentary. Well made, well balanced, tough but surprisingly touching as well. It's about paraplegic rugby players. Man, that stuff's hardcore!
I got no crafting done yesterday, but I got on Lee's non-angry side by doing dishes and washing and washing the duvet which was long overdue I'm sad and repulsed to say. It is now drying in the pseudo-sun by the window, draped over two chairs.
There was no drama at all about opening the bottle of mead. Nothing that needs mentioning. Everything went smoothly.
Point of Fashion: King Kong Crew shirt again
Current Obsession: why do my eyes hurt?
Edit: this week is the last week of the Small World, Big Town exhibition at the Art Gallery. You should really check it out, it's neat.
I am resisting the urge to post the picture I had taken last night online. The mock up of my wedding dress is very very promising. It actually looks quite elegant in calico with pen lines and revealed seams so I'm feeling quite happy and excited.
Next weekend I shall buy fabric! Lining! Thread! Zip!
To combat the happiness I had my first proper anxiety dream about the wedding: It was a mere two weeks til the wedding and we were doing a rehearsal which turned into the real thing part way through. My bridesmaids (TP and Sok, randomly) and I wanted flowers but hadn't managed to buy any, so we were running about trying to steal pohutukawa blossoms off trees.
The ceremony was to take place in the overbridge at university but a guy who looked a lot like Richard Attenborough told us it wasn't allowed and we'd have to use a foyer instead. The bus we'd organised to collect people from in town and deliver them to the wedding arrived carrying only two people which could mean either no one else was coming or everyone was bringing cars and we'd run out of parking.
When I woke up I realised I don't remember seeing Lee in the dream after the overbridge so presumably he was searching for a venue for the wedding while I was trying to figure out how to cut the branch off a tree without a saw! (The best blossoms were on thick branches).
My weekend has otherwise been restful and pleasant. I have purchased facial mask from Lush, the new Lemony Snicket book and several copies of Cleolinda's book (one for me, the rest Christmas presents). I did not buy a Midnight Dance Bratz doll even though I want one very much and they're on sale for $10 off.
I've done lots of scrapbooking and no sewing. I intend to sew a few Christmas presents and I should get started on those. I should also design our wedding invitations.
Rachel's party was very pleasant, good food which I inadvertantly stuffed myself with, great company and she seemed to like the pareu I brought back from Rarotonga for her. Hmmm. Still have two shelves free on the new old bookcase. I must be able to find something to go there!
Point of Fashion: King Kong Crew tshirt
Current Obsession: Making the most of the last day of the long weekend
Weather = teh suXX0rs.
I had a funny dream last night but I haven't been able to grab it's tail effectively so it flew away. It did have ponies in it, which I suspect no one is surprised about.
I have put a photo up with all the My Little Ponies I currently own in it. If you fear not the ponies, go forthwith hence. (Is that correct usage of 'hence'? Do I care?)
I have read books:
Nine Letters Long is the Young Adult sequel to Red Cardigan which is about a girl who recieves messages from ghosts. It's cool. A bit scary but not too bad, compelling...you really want to know what happens next!
Finished volume one of No Man's Land graphic novel, and must read the novel novel that Hix lent me of the same story. Looks good, and not just because I'm a rabid Batman fangirl who owns novels based on the movies and animated tv show. Not at all.
Graphic novel called Flight appeared in the library and it's neat. It's basically a collection of short illustrated stories to do with flying and flying machines and kites and stuff. Little vignettes and gorgeous artwork. I like it a lot.
Have read a couple of chapters into War of the Flowers now so Rachel can be pleased. I suspect I will dedicate a chunk of my weekend to getting through its phone book like mass of pages.
Then (and only then) can I let myself read more of Anansi Boys.
Point of Fashion: Friday. Need sleep.
Current Obsession: 3 hours 45 minutes to go.
Lee took very good care of me last night. He bought me flowers and made me a special roast lamb dinner with chocolate dipped strawberries for dessert. I am so happy to have such a lovely boy.
We also got a new old bookcase. Lee didn't like my idea of making it into a High Rise My Little Pony Habitat so the overflow of books from the bookcases in the lounge are moving into the spare room. Thanks Rachel! I can see it's going to make a huge difference.
I had a lovely long bath with the Ceridwen's Cauldron bath melt my Mum gave me and it was divine. Then we watched some more episodes of My Name is Earl and Alan will be pleased to know that Kenny looks like being a recurring character. It's a really neat show, laid back hillbilly redemption stuff with not too much concern about reality. Plus the three leads are all awesome.
Today I'm feeling kinda fine. Kinda weird because I'm all discouraged with my chosen profession and I don't much know what to do about that.
I shall write. I only have plans for the Sunday of the long weekend so what I'll do is write up my entry for the Kapcon SDC and then work on some other stuff. I have a couple of possible children's books I should probably get onto paper. The problem is that the laptop doesn't have word on it and I really hate writing in notepad. Will get Lee to try and install it again.
It's kinda muggy today. I am not impressed.
Point of Fashion: canteen bandanna
Current Obsession: getting through the day
I dreamed that Giffy, Celeste, some tall Russian supermodel and I had all entered into a beauty pageant. Giffy was wearing a very beautiful black dress with a corset underneath, Celeste and I were wearing everyday work clothes and Russian supermodel friend was dressed much like a model doing business casual. (Short black skirt, boots, fitted top, hair down.)
After going up on stage and flaunting our stuff Celeste, Russian supermodel and I went the wrong wasy and spent about an hour in the bottom well of a curving stairway wondering how the judging was going. We sort of knew we were in the wrong place but we didn't know where to go.
Eventually the chick from Space Channel 5 came down to collect us and took us back to the main auditorium where the judging was taking place. They told me that while on the catwalk I was trying too hard and basically that I came across as a scruffy slut. Giffy got a positive special mention for having great foundation garment on so she was very happy and then Celeste was named the overall winner!
I didn't have much time to congratulate her as she went up on stage though, as I was required to attend the Cruise ship buffet in Rarotonga that my sister and her partner and Lee were already at. It was a buffet dinner laced with panic since the world was ending as we watched. Tripods like in War of the Worlds were getting frighteningly close to the building we were in (sort of a penthouse cruiseship) and they were blasting and vaporising these incredibly tall buildings all around. We were frantically gathering food and eating as the destruction went on. I saw America's huge sky tower get destroyed. Apparently I could see America from there?
In real world news: I didn't get the job. Basically I would have if I'd had a Library qualification. She even said if there were two jobs I would have got the second one. She said I have great potential (I hate that word, it makes me feel young.)
So. Poot.
The celebrant has cancelled on us, we're seeing her next Tuesday, so Lee and I are going to have a quiet night in.
Point of Fashion: pink and blue rugby-style shirt
Current Obsession: Don't cry.
Nyeah.
On Sunday night we watched Mad Hot Ballroom which is....Ok. I had expected a better movie somehow. I don't think they spent enough time distinguishing which kids were who and went to which school. It isn't helped by the soulless naming system they seem to have for primary schools in New York which seems to be the initials P.S. and then some numbers.
It was very much in the tradition of Spellbound but not as well made. Instead of choosing a few kids and showing their progress it was kind of a conglomerate of generic children. I managed to get a favourite all the same but a lot of the time I could only tell which kids we were with by their dance teacher.
Good point: Lovely footage of children learning to dance and being improved by what they've learned.
Bizarre moment: Teacher who kept crying. She cried because the kids in her class were getting older. Lee and I were both like "wtf? deal with it!"
Annoying thing: Made me want to learn dancing. Lee is not so keen.
Last night I washed some ponies. It was kinda fun. I conditioned their tails so they'd be smoother. It looks like Baby Tappy isn't rare so I can customise her without guilt. She just looks too much like a pig at the moment. She has a grand desitiny of snitchness that awaits her.
Point of Fashion: flashy new bracelet and chinese print hoodie
Current Obsession: I ate too much at lunch
Just to share the joy really. Pearce has been posting the most hilarious Spiderman comics ever. Here.
I especially love them because I don't really like Spiderman as a character and I always found those three panel per day comics really dry and disappointing as a kid. They had Spiderman and the Phantom in the Evening Post and they sucked!
Those who aren't up with it might not have realised that Dog Blog updated last week. Awww those dogs make me happy!
and to freak you out big time: my little centaur on trademe.
Done now.
Thanks to the wonderful Dream Valley website I have successfully identified a bunch of my new ponies.
I had a bit of a squealy freakout when I realised one of Michaela's old ones is a Brush'n'Grow pony (i.e. her mane is extra long and her tail extends out and can be reeled back in by turning her head back and forth). She's called Pretty Vision, which I suppose is the best you can hope for when there's a picture of a mirror on your butt.
So, because you're dying to know:
Two early earth ponies: Lickety-Spilt (I remember her from the show!) and Tootsie, which is the one Sok had.
Lemondrop from the Show Stable playset
A flutter pony (sans wings) called Tropical Breeze
a Sundae Best pony called Sherbet
Baby Tappy is the one that looks more like a My Little Piggy, and will shortly be for the customisation into a golden snitch (unless I find out she's rare...)
a pegasus with the unfortunate name of Sprinkles. I think I'll rename her Ducky because he butt has cute little duckies on it.
and a pony called Sweet Pocket which once had a little bee on a string that'd go into the dimensional flower pocket on her hip. I might make her a new one so she doesn't feel lonely.
I feel like I have a couple of others in the pony apartments who I have forgotten and still haven't identified. I'm a gonna clean up the ones that need it tonight and make sure I know all their names. Then I'm gonna photograph them and make a new scrapbook page for the collection.
Ah! Bliss!
Edited: I had only forgotten one pony and that turns out to be a Magic Message Pony! Her name is......Floater. I'm sorry but what does that make YOU think of?
Point of Fashion: still the same
Current Obsession: ponies ponies job ponies
I feel like I have too much emotion for my body. I feel drained because I had a really wretched sleep...too hot, sore neck from Hell, shoulders crunched when on my side, neck sore when on my back. Worrying.
I can't stand this suspense.
I don't want to feel numb from everything but the worrying anymore. I don't want to cry but I can feel it there underneath. Having my period right now is just another weight on me.
I want to go back out to the coast with my parents and walk on the beach again. Talk about a calming atmosphere.
At the same time I feel immensely lyrical, like I could write a novel or paint a masterpiece if I had the time. I don't have any time.
Presents from family: scrapbooking supplies (need time now!) and Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman. Chocolate. Lovely.
Point of Fashion: jolly roger tshirt I had forgotten I owned
Current Obsession: when will they tell me about the job?
Fly by reportage.
I had a nice party. I gots good presents and had a fairly high turn out of people in costume. I wasn't as outnumbered by companions as I had feared! I thought everyone looked fantastic and it was great to catch up with people I don't see as often (although I may have neglected the peeps I see more regularly to do this. Sorry!)
Lesson learned: mingling is hard, don't get lazy and stay in the same place all night!
Space Man 'candy sticks' went down a treat and we're left with less than a half of the box so that's neatie. Cake seemed well appreciated and hotdogs and samosas very good indeed. I enjoyed my mead and lindauer fraise a lot, but prolly shouldn't have started drinking so early. I haven't got great photos of people's costumes because I didn't bully people into standing up/posing with me/getting into a clear area.
Lesson learned: drink comes second to scrapbooking resources.
Heh.
People said nice things about how I looked which is always nice and I think all my girlfriends and boyz looked great too.
Last people cleared off at about 2am and Lee and I did a quick whip around for any mess (hardly any!) and fell into bed and straight to sleep within 15 minutes! Am a nana. Hope the stragglers didn't feel like I was pushing them out the door, because late night conversations are always good.
Thanks to all who came, I had a great time.
Next up: Day 3 in Jenni's 3 day birthday festival - family stuff.
Point of Fashion: Charm necklace from Simon and jellyfish singlet
Current Obsession: weird taste in mouth.
had a nice birthday.
I had a terrible sleep the night before, worrying about whether or not I'm getting a new job, and planning the party and stuff but after driving up the coast in the gorgeous sunshine, singing to my favourite songs and having lunch with my parents my anxiety pretty much evaporated. Then I bought myself new shoes!
*loves new shoes*
Lee took me shopping to Luminary for a present, since he had no inspiration for himself and he bought me a bracelet and a necklace. They're all bronzey-charmy-vintagey and I love them. Then we went to get my wedding ring sorted out and it's going to be relatively cheap and they're gonna design it this week, so that's another thing checked off the list.
Lee's family gave me book vouchers and a sparkley-vintagey-pearly-starburst brooch.
*loves new jewellery*
Then we invaded Svend's house and had a kinda social evening with a few people. Lee's family seemed to mingle pretty well and I gots me some more presents: Terry Pratchett picture book, Honey Mead, candy selection.
*loves presents*
Giffy and Sass and Michaela (Thanks Michaela!) gave me ponies. A bunch of very nice condition vintage My Little Ponies which I exclaimed over and people were surprised I knew all the names...why were you surprised? Actually I have a bunch that I don't know the names of but I am very happy to have a Lemondrop and a near-mint Windy and a teeny tiny baby and it's all great.
*loves My Little Ponies*
The ones from Michaela need a bit of a clean, but there're some really nice ponies there! Must resist spending time today playing with ponies. Must make house nice for party.
Point of Fashion: Casual for cleaning
Current Obsession: My herd has doubled in size!
I was thinking about ways I know I've changed, so I thought that might make an interesting post.
* I used to be so laid-back that I'd carry no tension in my back/neck. This was during high school and varisty when I didn't worry about much, just exams. I didn't understand why people needed their backs 'clicked' because I never did. I didn't really understand the appeal of massages because I never had knots to work out.
* When I was ten I hated the way I looked so I always wore ugly clothes...huge second hand men's shirts, trackpants, my Mum's cardigans.
* In high school I used to wear flannel shirts a lot. I sometimes miss the singlet/flannel shirt/baggy pants combo. Hmmm...I smell a party theme "Dress like you did in high school".
* I used to like all movies regardless of lack of plot/character development, etc, I used to be a movie slut.
* In university I used to wear make-up. Eyeliner mostly, in various colours. Black mascara.
Point of Fashion: Bertie Bott's every flavour beans
Current Obsession: tomorrow
My legs are weird. They feel stiff and heavy. Driving was almost too much effort, especially going through town this morning after my meeting with the constant hill start clutch-ness. I feel like I'm walking wrong. Is very strange.
Spent a lovely evening with Muggle last night (unfortunatley no Giffy as she is still sick) but it was still nice to catch up and chat and reminisce about old roleplaying games!
I am sleepy. I keep waking up in the night...no doubt it's low level anxiety about the whole job thing. I just want to know for sure what's going to happen!
I have a new canteen bandanna in a very appealing pale-leaf green. I love it to bits. Might have to make a quilt out of the old ones or I'll be overrun with bandannas. Quilts are fun. I want to make more quilts.
Point of Fashion: green bandanna, same jeans as yesterday
Current Obsession: looking awake
I'm re-reading some Batman. I just finished Cataclysm which remains one of my favourite stories. It's about a huge earthquake hitting Gotham and leads right into the awesome No Man's Land sequence. It also features a fair bit of Nightwing which doesn't hurt any.
Grey days. Sleepy Jenni.
Watched the last Sherlock Holmes story so we cna give the DVDs back to Matt and Debs on Saturday. It was OK...my grasp of the story disappeared after a phone call to Giffy in the middle, but I kept reading my comic so I was OK. I have not a lot of tolerance for novels right now..I've started two and then put them down uninterested.
What I did get done last night was write down all my ideas for my Mean Girls game after Steve got me excited about it again. It's shaping up pretty good. I just have to work out some system for it and it'll rock.
Point of Fashion: clean jeans
Current Obsession: am I hungry or not?
My throat is beginning to hurt. I hope it's not the start of something.
Good news: bridesmaids dresses of cuteness purchased! Makeup quotes of cheapness obtained! Jenni happy!
Bad news: back to work tomorrow.
I did more sewing this afternoon: two more jeans patchwork cushions with polarfleece backing. This creates space in the spare room because the inners are no longer floating around and it also creates more seating! I just have to handsew the last seams but I'm waiting til I'm watching something before I do that. I used fabric from the sleeves of my Kaylee overalls and also the strips of extra from my fin pants and Lee's jeans that I hemmed months ago. I am The Recycler!
Figured out at Jarratt's party exactly what my mutant power is. I can make everyone do one thing. The thing I can make people do varies person to person, so it's been a long and slow process figuring this stuff out....I have a list of about 6 orders and the people who obey them. None of this will help me take over the world of course until I can meet some world leaders and hopefully they'll obey such orders as "Make me Queen of the World!"
Roleplayers! Matt's made a kapcon blog which is exiciting because it has the very tempting list of Victorian LARP characters on it!
Non-Roleplayers: Did you know that panties with suspender hooks are now available from Kirks and Farmers? I found that out yesterday.
Point of Fashion: I've gotten colder and colder as the day's gone by
Current Obsession: the nap I'm not having.
I got my thrice cursed jacket finished last night. It looks very nice indeed. I hate it quite a lot but now that I don't have to sew it anymore I suspect this will fade and I'll just think it's pretty.
The quote for the caterers has come out a bit more expensive than we'd thought so Lee's not too happy. I am hoping to get the higher paying job because that'd help. Must not get hopes up too high though as obviously no garauntees. (Is that the right spelling? Looks crazy!)
I am feeling grey and sigh and blah.
Point of Fashion: Friday comfort
Current Obsession: sleep
I am sleepy. I am eyes gritty mouth dry sleepy.
Combination of Lee forcefully changing his sleeping position, hayfever and wild speculation about The Job kept me awake from 2.30ish to 5.15ish this morning. Not fun. I am kind of a zombie today.
Last night we watched Torn Curtain for the Hitchcock because none of us knew anything about it and it had Julie Andrews in it. It's actually to do with the iron curtain although wild speculation prior the the movie had us imagining a curtain for two hours, slowly flapping in the wind and becoming more torn. Possibly with a director's cameo.
I quite liked it, sort of action adventure spy stuff but the main character was a completely useless scientist trying to pull off the spy stuff. Everyone cleared off really quickly after the movie finished so either I looked as tired as I felt or everyone else felt the same way. I had a bit of a snooze on the couch waiting for Lee to finish his mission of Battlefield 2, then we watched the Fever episode of Black Books and went to bed.
A good hour after the guests had left Giffy and Rachel called to ask how the interview went. I'm afraid I was completely unhelpful being mostly asleep as I talked to them. It didn't help that when the phone rang I initially thought it was someone calling with Terrible News. I always think that if the phone rings between about 10 and about 8am then it's because Something Has Happened. It's my worst case scenario brain, I just can't help it.
Point of Fashion: slobby work clothes
Current Obsession: Jack Johnson
Interview went well. I feel good about it. They threw me a couple of curve balls but I muddled through the answers and I know my responses to some of the other questions impressed them a lot.
I didn't even get to mention the paper I presented at conference! (Although I think I wrote about it on my application) One of them complimented me on my CV because it has a watermarked picture of me presenting a class visit on it.
Nice library, lovely people. They said they're looking at having a decision finalised by the end of next week, so for now it's plain sailing and not thinking about it.
They asked me about stress management and I mentioned how upset I got with my jacket on Monday. *grin*
Point of Fashion: relief
Current Obsession: Jack Johnson
Not too nervous, but plenty nervous enough.
I am looking elegant today, I have been told so. (Note to fashionistas, I am wearing exactly what I wore to present at conference. Just with black boots instead of my scuffed red Docs.)
I have just read a fantastic book called The Action Heroine's Handbook. It taught me important things like how to distract a sasquatch, throttle a man with my thighs and turn into a hottie in 5 minutes. Awesome. Next I have the Batman Handbook which will no doubt teach me more valuable skills. The library buys some wonderful stuff.
Uhm. Is it normal to get diarhea whenever I get stressed? I'm sure it didn't use to be that way. I'm a bit concerned that I never got completely well from the Raro belly and it flares up with stress. I thought I might be alright with only two days worth of time to worry but I'm not. My belly is sucky.
Thanks to those who've already sent me good wishes. I'll do my best at the interview. It can't really be scarier than talking at conference can it? Can it??
Hitchcock tonight, just a reminder.
Oh and Evie..the jacket is not lined. Also about French seams..how do I know I have the right seam allowance if I've done a French seam? I'm not going to bother with the jacket since it's nearly finished, but in case I wish to torture myself in the future it'd be nice to know.
Point of Fashion: You know.
Current Obsession: interview. (You probably knew that too.)
Note to self: never sew with brocade again. It frays as soon as you look at it. It spills irridescent blur threads all over your clothes, the floor the sewing machine.
I got so angry with my sewing last night that Lee got quite worried. I was ready to scream after I realised I'd pinned the sleeves into the wrong armholes. After a bath I had a bit more perspective though. It's coming together and I think it'll look really good when it's done. I also think it's a good thing that I'll have it finished this early before the party and I won't be harbouring resentment against the durn thing by then.
Last night I had broken sleep of doom alternately worrying about the interview and dreaming odd things. The one that's stuck in my mind is the oddly bureaucratic vampire dream. Are you ready?
Me and everyone I know had been turned into vampires. We were awaiting instructions from the vampire mob boss/CEO. While waiting for him to assign us to cabins (like summer camp) we had to arrange ourselves correctly into a giant dishwasher. I was in the lower part, to the left.
The CEO got angry with a couple of guys, maybe from Deadwood for failing to complete some mission so he killed them. This was good nes for us waiting in the dishwasher because it meant cabins became free. I was assigned a three bed cabin with Dagger and Rachel. Inside were two single beds and one double. We said Dagger could have the double since he's tallest.
We settled in and then it was night and I was waiting up for Lee to come home. He was really late but I didn't want to go to sleep. I watched TV and hung in the doorframe until he returned. Then it was morning and I wanted to make breakfast. I went downstairs to the kitchen and there were rats all over. I cursed the previous vampiric tenants for letting things get to dirty and then I caught a rat with my bare hands. I didn't want to kill it but I knew it couldn't stay so I gave it to Lee to deal with.
I'm pretty sure I made French toast for everyone and then I woke up.
Point of Fashion: vintage tshirt with street scene
Current Obsession: Tired eyes.
I have an interview for the other job I'm applying for. Very exciting.
In other news. I didn't manage to reward myself with anything more than 5 minutes scrapbooking time yesterday because I got the sewing bug. After I got frustrated my back hurt so bad that all I wanted to do was watch TV. Or more to the point DVDs. Watched another episode of Deadwood and am perplexed by the character of Calamity Jane, so I think I need to watch more. At this point I'm having trouble telling the men apart which isn't so very good.
Then we watched Titan AE and I tried not to fall asleep. I was just very sleepy yesterday!
Point of Fashion: Brrr cold weather
Current Obsession: not getting freaked about interview.
right. I cut everything out and interfaced the bits that needed it and then I sewed for like, 3 hours. No blood spilled yet, it seems to be exacting the price from me in the form of lower back pain.
I got to the point where I'm so frustrated I'll cut corners just to get it finished and I thought I can finish it tomorrow.
So. Over half way through, should be done soon if I put in some more hours.
I had fun at Svend's talking to people I know through roleplaying who I don't see so much. Lee and I nearly didn't come out at all on account of my being amazingly grumpy and the awful weather of hurricane strength winds.
Saturday I didn't go to a movie with Rachel. We went to the art gallery instead and saw some neat stuff. I really like miniture dioramas with teeny people and trees and roads and so on, the one on display at the moment is actually fantastically vioolent with little guys in army uniforms attacking civilians but it's neat all the same.
Weird moment of synchronicity when I thought I'd tell Rachel afterwards about the red, black and white aeroplane sculpture that I'd seen in 6th form and it turned out to be on display in that very exhibition! It was good to see it again, and I also love the 0.2 scale fully functional studio apartment.
The art gallery is good right now. Go and see the stuff!
Saw more pairs of shoes I want. I am now officially obsessed. There were two pairs at #1 shoe warehouse...and I didn't even get to the sneaker section that Rachel got her purple stripey fakey converses from.
I watched Moulin Rouge last night. It had been a while and I enjoyed it very much.
Today I bought interfacing for my jacket. Now the next step is to cut everything out. I shall do it as soon as I stop procrastinating here and then I will reward myself with scrapbooking time. Can't be bothered leaving the house again as I am still low level grumpy. It's kinda simmering away there under a veneer of contentment.
Oh and I am officially now fashion police, despite my non-adherence to fashion, I am the judge, jury and executioner. (Rachel may be a fellow officer, and I know Lee is too.)
Bought some party supplies yesterday: plastic cups, serviettes, mini hot dogs, triangle samosa-thingies, a big box of spaceman cigarettes. (They're space cause of the picture, and cowboy because of the smoking. They are Teh Awesome.)
Point of Fashion: Kapcon tshirt
Current Obsession: stoopid jacket. Why do I not want to make you so?
