Aeon Flux - Extereme Spoilers.

Why I thought the movie Aeon Flux was really quite good:

Ok, so I went in expecting it to be crap. You know, Daredevil, Kingdom of Heaven, Underworldsort of stuff. It wasn't. I found that I really liked the opening sequence and the stuff that happened at the start of the movie and thinking 'when's it going to get bad?'

They managed to do what I was assuming they wouldn't be able to manage. They kept the feel of the MTV cartoon. Things would happen and I'd think 'yes. That's exactly right' and I found myself enjoying it the way I enjoyed it on MTV as a 16 year old. It was weird and sexy and crack-smoking.

Charlize Theron is very beautiful and although I do wish they'd made her hair a bit more crazy, she was a very good Aeon.

My biggest problem with the whole package was the characterisation of Trevor Goodchild. He was too good. My favourite thing about Trevor is that he's an unknown quantity. He loves Aeon but will do what's best for his people, or himself and you can never tell what that will be. I would have been able to handle the whole coup storyline if only he'd turn to Aeon right at the end and said "You're still a criminal. Run before they shoot you." You know, something to show that he was still her enemy because if you think about it the Monnikans are against the entire regime of Goodchilds not the minor-ish problem that was resolved.

That said the movie was full of coolness, the security system of grass, the Big Brother is watching pool, the fly in the eyelashes, the clothes Aeon wore, the kiss then sex then attempted murder between Aeon and Trevor...the cute little baby. There were multiple sequences when I was just thinking "What the Hell is going on?" and that's exactly what the movie should have been.

It was a bit too expositionary and it was a bit too nicey nicey but I loved it all the same.
