There's apparently some controversy over whether kids should wear sunglasses after an optometrist company donated heaps of sunglasses to five year olds at Wellington schools. Story and adorable picture here.
I can understand the furore and everything but I think they're missing a very important point. These are five year old kids. Do you think the sunglasses are going to last?
Five year olds will lose sunglasses quicker than I will (and I lose sunglasses like they're going oout of fashion. Or something) Plus think of the breakage. I've seen five year old kids. Their normal mode of transport is running. They don't care if they fall down. The sunglasses aren't going to last long enough for the kids to wear them constantly and become sensitive to light.
