Blog gazing

Went out to visit my friend Julie, who has recently had a little bubba. We went out into the windy world and walked and talked. One of my favourite things to do, walk and talk. We even went in rural climes, with a dog. Perfect.

And at some point in the afternoon, Julie said, so how do you find these blog things?

So I told her about how blogs often have blogrolls on the side, and that once you have found one you like you can often link from that one to others of similar ilk. And I fessed up that yes, I do have a blog (bet that was news to you, Cstant readers).

But it did make me try to remember how I found my first blogs, and wonder what it is that keeps me reading them and going back to some and not others. Good writing helps, and someone with similar Ccerns is also more interesting in the long term. Opinions that I agree with are more restful, and a sense of humour is attractive. Very attractive.

And I don't tend to go back to blogs that are too slow to load. Yup, I'm still on dial-up.

I mostly only read blogs of friends... I read yours because you are Iona's friend, are a scientist doing a thesis and because you have young kids so I can see what I am in for(-: And you seem to have a similar sense of humour and I enjoy it. Even so, I'm not sure I would read it often without the personal connection... guess I'm just shy(-:

Its one of the things I like about blogging, I can get to know aspects of people in a safe way - I don't even have to introduce myself! That friend of a friend thing is the basis of blogrolls, I reckon.
