City of the blind

I never met anyone blind before coming to Wellington, now I see reguarly four blind people.

One of them is in an electric wheelchair, and I am really interested to see how she works her dog from the chair. Soon we will have 2 guide dogs in our train carriage.

And there is that poetry braille sculpture on Willis Street...

There's a guy who catches the number 1 bus a lot. He uses a white cane... and, either he hasn't been blind for long and isn't used to it, or they're a damn site harder to use than they look in the movies (with the exception of that one we watched at Iona's house, where the cat wasn't dead). I'm going with the hard to use theory - I mean, if you tap around just above ground level, you miss anything that is higher than that. I've seen him crash into trees, or fall over cars... I think I'd be too scared to go anywhere, I'd just stay in bed.
