Introduction

I'm trying to tidy up the sprawling email that gets sent to new stonesoupers when they sign up. Any suggestions for changes and/or additions? Suggestions from new stonesoupers particularly sought: what didn't I tell you?

The latest draft says:

Dear name,

Welcome to stonesoup!

1. YOUR BLOG
============

Here's what I've set up:

URL: http://www.stonesoup.co.nz/blogname/
Blogname: blogname

2. LOGGING IN
=============

[omitted]

3. TOO MANY COOKS (FOR ALL STONESOUPERS)
========================================

You can also post to "Too Many Cooks" (2MC) (www.stonesoup.co.nz/general), which is a blog for all stonesoupers where you can ask questions about the software and the site, and post items of interest. Administrative notices will show up there, too.

4. STONESOUP EMAIL
==================

I've set name@stonesoup.co.nz to redirect to your [existing email] account.

Your blog is configured so that any comments are sent to you in email. This is useful for keeping track of comments that appear on older entries, but you can change it at any time in the Weblog Config preferences.

5. ANTI-SPAM MEASURES
=====================

You'll notice that at the bottom of your comment emails there's a link to MT Blacklist. If you get spam in your comments, click the link and add the URL to the list. Join the fight against spam. :)

6. KOHA
========

Stonesoup's running on a koha basis, so if, after a while, you decide you really like Stonesoup then we'd love to see a donation for whatever you think the service is worth. Note: Should I put an indicative amount here?

7. HELP/GETTING STARTED
=======================

Once you log in, you'll find there's on-line help and loads of features. It's all pretty easy stuff and well documented.

You can grab different stylesheets from http://www.movabletype.org. Failing that, post on 2MC and we can probably help you out.

There's also a document called Recipe for Stonesoup containing basic introductory stuff if you need it: http://www.stonesoup.co.nz/general/Recipe.pdf

8. HOMEPAGE & STONESOUP TRADITIONS
==================================

Once you've posted your first entry I'll add you to the homepage. Feel free to email me if you want to hurry me along.

We have a voluntary Friday theme. Check out 2MC for details. (Original idea recorded here: http://www.stonesoup.co.nz/general/archives/001210.html)

Re: Koha, I think an indicative amount would be good. I keep forgetting to koha, so maybe a quick emplanation of how you do it, too?

I want to koha!

Hmm, well $20 to $40 dollars a year would be about right, but *only* if you can afford it. Does that sound reasonable? As to method, um, hmmm. Give me cash? *grin* Or email me and we'll sort out some other mode of transference. :)

I agree. I've been meaning to ask you about the koha. 'Tw'd be good if I could send you a cheque.....

One wee thing.

The font used in the Introductory email, if preserved by the recipients e-mail client, makes it impossible to distinguish between 0 (zero) and o (small o).

I don't know how often a new user's password will go out with a mix of alphanumeric zeros and o's, but it got me cause my initial password was rand(zero)m indistinguishable from random until I looked at it in notepad...

Just letting you know.

hooray

It seemed rude to ask about koha. But I want to and now I have a nice amount that's not too cheap and nasty.
