So after this long rambling carry on about logs etc... what do I do when I'm work from home in a prefectly blog friendly manner? Forget to download last week damn raw log files and now they are gone. Sorry folks. I was looking forward to doing a little bit of analysis on it too.
In other news, Fi has asked about hosting non MT blogs. I'm going to look into it, bit I suspect that it's likely to be a huge pain in the ass. Thoughts and comments would be hugely appreciated.
Giles, if you are reading this, could you give me a bit of a low down on how radio userland?
Posted by kim at April 29, 2003 03:21 PMAccording to radio.userland.com, RU runs on your desktop. It also says "Radio can automatically FTP to any one or a number of different servers of your choosing." Does this mean it doesn't have to be installed on the webserver? Or am I being clueless?
Posted by: iona at April 29, 2003 03:35 PMOh, and Kim? You really don't suck. :-)
There'll always be more raw data...
Posted by: iona at April 29, 2003 03:36 PMYep - Iona is right. I'm pretty sure RU just generates the files for a static website and then shifts them up to a specified server. Pinging is done automagically by the desktop client and the salon referrers and hits list is generated by a simple javascript at the bottom of the page.
How nicely it would play with other features of stonesoup I have no idea (like the first paragraph module). My guess is it probably wouldn't.
Posted by: Giles at April 29, 2003 04:11 PMYou don't suck at all. And we still love you. And I especially love you because now no one knows how many times I logged on last week (lots)!
Posted by: Fi at April 29, 2003 04:39 PMBut Giles, using RU, probably *does* know how many times I log on to his blog at least. Urk. Just multiply that by the number of blogs I read, plus a bit for people like Iona who posts at random so I have to check the chinashop at least every half hour just in case...
(Don't mind me, I'm just having a brief phase of obsessing about how tragic I am).
Giles, what is the first paragraph module?
*clueless fi-monkey*
Posted by: Fi at April 29, 2003 04:45 PMHow did this happen? How did I get so obsessed?
Speaking of obsessed, I should get offline…
(Hey Iona, maybe we should start up a support group. BA?)
The first paragraph module is the thing that puts the most recent posts on the homepage, I think.
iona (pre-empting other people's answers since 1642)
Posted by: iona at April 29, 2003 04:58 PMOh okay. That could be cool. I'll take a look at the radioland stuff. Keep in mind the FTP upload thingy isn't all that scaleable because we have a finite amount of accounts we can set up (hosting limitations). Having said that I'm sure we'd love to have a blog celebrity like Giles, so it would be worth it. Right guys. (How quickly I've become a fame whore!)
As for the first paragraph except. I'm sure we can badger RU into doing what we need. Basically, the homepage looks for a little html fragment in your blog directory called up.html and then squirts it into the correct spot on the home page (technical term: "includes")
right. more work. must. write. proposal....now....
