This moring I got up per usual. Went to bathroom, got dressed, then I started brushing my hair. It's quite long and kind of tugs on my head and probably on my third stroke my neck...cricked. I thought it was one of those temporary neck clicks that takes a couple of seconds to wear off. I was wrong.
After 15mins I still couldn't move my head around much or there were shooting pains down the left hand side of my neck. Beau eventually came downstairs and saw me looking pained in the kitchen. At that stage I thought I could at least drive to school, albeit carefully. However, I have never had anything like this happen to me before and telling him how it hurt made me start crying. It was kind of freaking me out. So I called in sick at school and we drove to the A&E.
I never realised just how much you need to look around when driving. Luckily Beau helped. It was also about 7.15am when we left so there wasn't much traffic. The early time also seemed to mean that the A&E was pretty empty. Did you know that neck strain is one of the major signs of meningitis? I got seen pretty quickly.
The doctor in charge was Beau's cousin and the doctor who examined me was a girl (ahem) woman that I knew from my first year at Otago. We stayed in the same hostel. After poking and prodding and making me move they said it's just muscle strain. All my other limbs are fine, but moving the head is a kind of important thing to be able to do also, I am apparently a pain pussy and it REALLY REALLY HURTS!!!
Hopefully it will wear off by tomorrow. I have now have so much respect who deal with such pain every day of their lives.
