Today I caught my third, fourth and fifth fish ever in my life. All within about 10 minutes. It was very weird. My usual experience of fishing is putting bait on hooks and playing about with dropping them into water and waiting till they have gone away. This was quite a different experience, with clear nibbles and tugs on the line sometimes followed by small fish. I'm not sure what species they were, and the internet wasn't helpful just now when I asked it (perhaps I didn't say please).
I can never quite decide if fishing is horrible and barbaric, or pleasant and traditional. I still don't know. But they were very pretty, and encouraged my confidence that Wellington Harbour is not so polluted that nothing can survive in it.
