best beats

Well, if you want a good night out, I'd have to recommend the Wellington Heads.

They've been playing together for the better half of a decade and seem to have scored a large proportion of The Black Seeds brass section. They specialise in an almost big band sound (accentuated by the bass player shifting to double-bass). I'm not so hot keen on the chirpy stuff, but the slower, more moody material was fabulous. You can really tell the years of experience when a bass player can pull off a melody on bass with the rest of the music sitting around it. So nice to not have to listen to guitar driven stuff all night.

And the brass section was wonderful. The trumpet player was good, but the trombonist was magic. Lyrical and sultry, lovely use of the mute.
